Evan Mendel is a painter, muralist, and street artist, born in 1988 and raised in the valley outside of Los Angeles, CA. His artistic journey began with an early love for cartoons and comic books, which evolved into an interest in skateboard graphics and graffiti. Growing up immersed in skateboarding and surfing, thanks to his father’s involvement in a skate/surf shop, these cultures greatly influenced Evan's artistic sensibilities.
Discovering graffiti as a young teen had a lasting impact on Evan’s work. The techniques and styles he developed through years of graffiti directly influence his approach to painting. This foundation gradually shifted toward fine art, where he began to blend figurative art with abstract expressionism. Self-taught and constantly experimenting, Evan’s work explores the intersection of these styles.
The DIY ethos of skateboard and surf culture led Evan to start showcasing his art through pop-up exhibitions, eventually participating in group shows around Los Angeles. His work has been featured in galleries such as New Image Art, The Seventh Letter Gallery, Subliminal Projects, and The Lodge.
Since 2017, Evan has expanded his practice to include mural painting, beginning with his first mural in Ventura, CA. He has painted numerous murals around Los Angeles, Ventura County, Memphis, TN, Germany, France, and South Korea. His murals and street art are inspired by a desire to highlight everyday people and celebrate working-class communities. By focusing on these themes, Evan’s public art stays true to his commitment to authenticity and emotional expression.
Evan currently lives and works in Los Angeles, where he continues to explore and express his artistic vision.
